I’ve heard so many people say “Wow, where did the summer go?” People seem to think that
Labor Day is the end of summer but summer actually ends on September 22nd. So don’t
say good-bye to summer because there’s still plenty of summer days for you to enjoy on
Mackinac. This has been one of the warmest summers we’ve had with perfect sunny blue skies, tapped
off with gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. Now is the time for you to enjoy a beautiful September
and Fall on Mackinac. I love this time of year when we transition from a warm summer to the
magic of Fall.
It’s one of my favorite times of year because summer is still here but slowly fades away and welcomes
in the Fall. I’m always reminded of that at the Chippewa Hotel because without fail, a morning
sunrise in September and October takes my breath away. With spectacular views on
Lake Huron, you’ll witness the sun sparkling on the water as you sit out on your balcony.
You’ll love drinking in the peace and quiet with your morning coffee or tea that you can make in the privacy
of your room, and gaze at the boat lines coming in to dock.
For Mackinac lovers like me, September is one of the best times of year with it’s quiet serenity, and slower pace. I have fond memories of raising my kids with all of the hustle, bustle and activity that went with that as they went through school. Like me, I’m sure you’ve worked very hard giving to everyone your entire life to make sure they had what they needed above and beyond. But isn’t it time you give something to yourself? Like a magical September or October Getaway for you and that someone special in your life? My wife Brenda and I love celebrating our wedding anniversary on Mackinac in mid to late September. It’s the perfect way for us to reflect on our love for each other, our many blessings, biking in the great Fall weather, having a great anniversary dinner and seeing our extended family and friends at the Chippewa Hotel, our home away from home.
We also love renting a horse carriage and enjoying a gorgeous Mackinac sunset, seeing the ferry boats coursing through the waters as we trek up by the West Bluffs to the friendly clip-clop sound of the horses. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Or, if your children are still in school, I guarantee you that they would love to come back for a weekend
get-away for the last time this season before the school year gets in high gear. Your family will thank you
for it! The Fall unfolds in magical ways on Mackinac Island. Enjoy a peaceful 8.2-mile bike ride around M-185 or what I call, “Highway to Heaven” and gaze at the sparkling, Pure Michigan water.
Bring your own bikes like we do, or there’s great places right on Main Street to rent bikes. Every time
I look out on the water, I’m still amazed that our great lakes are more gorgeous than oceans far away.
That’s why I call it Pure Mackinac. One of our favorite things to do is exploring the inner island on our
bikes and enjoying the color tour first hand with the many roads and trails that allow you to truly
feel the inner beauty of Mackinac in ways you can’t imagine. You can also go on foot or rent a
horse from the many stables on the island. When you come back, you can casually stroll down Main
Street to take advantage of the End of Season sales in great shops like our brand new Pink Pony
store that’s connected to the Chippewa Lobby and Destination Mackinac that has lots of great
Mackinac items plus, they have my favorite shirts! They’re right next right next door to us so stop
in and tell them I sent you! : )
Then, grab a great meal at our famous the Pink Pony. Mackinac is known for it and it was just
recognized as ONE OF AMERICA’S 10 BEST RESTAURANTS FOR OUTDOOR DINING by
The Daily Meal, a renowned publication for the best food and drink places around the world.
In life, so many things are negotiable. Time is not. I think of how many times in my life and career
when I used to travel for business and I said, “if only I had more time.” My children are now
young adults and live in different parts of the U.S. and many times I wish could go back in time and
spend precious time with them, especially on Mackinac Island. Take it from me, on Mackinac
Island, you can go back in time so come back to enjoy a spectacular time this Fall.
If you some need extra incentive, take advantage of our Chippewa Fall Ferry Special going on from
