Last year, our May 2020 trip to the Chippewa Hotel was cancelled due to Covid which has impacted all of us. Great news! The 2021 season on Mackinac is now underway and very busy which is great! We were thrilled to return to the Chippewa Hotel Waterfront this May! It was a much-anticipated return and it’s our 19th year staying at the Chippewa Hotel which is why it’s our home away from home!
There was an amazing transformation in my heart as I drove across the Mighty Mackinac bridge as if it were my first time! I had excitement coupled with child-like anticipation as I boarded the ferry boat in St. Ignace and yes, wearing my Pink Pony mask. Then churning through the majestic blue waters feeling alive as the glory of Mackinac Island unfolded in all its majesty. My eyes fixed on the Chippewa Hotel as we pulled into the bay and I had this warm inner peace that collided with excitement as the boat reversed its engines and slowly pulled into the dock.
It was great seeing our friend and Chippewa Hotel dock porter extraordinaire, Archie! He balances and rides to and from the ferry dock with ease with our huge load of luggage!
We rode our bikes down Main Street, seeing our familiar sites and got to our home away from home, the Chippewa Hotel Waterfront!
When we walked in the lobby, It was like an exciting family reunion! It was great seeing our good friends Bart, the fantastic Front Desk Manager, Bri and Ntombi who do an outstanding job at the front desk and Archie, the amazing Dock porter, when we checked in! So yes, we had to pose for a selfie!
More positive news on Mackinac! It was great seeing the sign in the lobby and being told that masks are no longer required at the Chippewa Hotel If we’ve been vaccinated so since I’ve been vaccinated, I took my mask off! But I wore it many times inside as I’m so used to wearing It after having to wear it for so long! Plus, it’s a Pink Pony mask!
We then checked into our room in suite 310 which we’ve been in many times and then, more happy surprises from our dear friends at the Chippewa!
What a warm, great feeling to get this beautiful welcome back note, plus Pink Pony gifts; masks, bike seat covers, decals and wine bottle top lids! Our friends at the Chippewa sure know how to make us feel welcomed!
Our room was beautiful and made us feel like home and the views off of our balcony were spectacular as always!
Plus, this year, housekeeping service is back and it was great seeing our hard-working friends who make the rooms beautiful everyday. Plus it was great hearing the gentle knock at our door in the evening to be greeted with smiles, Oreo cookies and milk once again! It’s great that things are getting back to normal like it used to be.
We loved sitting out in the morning having coffee and in the evening, enjoying wine in our Pink Pony glasses that I bought in the Pink Pony store in the lobby! Excellent memories to take back home and remembering our great time when we’re having wine at home.
It was great seeing our good friend Brian Bailey and having a delicious lunch at the Pink Pony, talking and catching up about our families. And yes, I was wearing my Pink Pony shirt! Brian is the General Manager of the Chippewa Hotel, Pink Pony and their sister hotel the Lilac Tree Suites & Spa. We’ve become good friends with him and his family over the years.
It was a long anticipated ride and wonderful to bike around the island again on M-185, which I call Highway to Heaven! And with views like this, it was perfect!
British Landing is a wonderful place to see and appreciate the majesty of Mackinac Island.
We enjoyed the amazing views of the crystal blue water while biking.
Arch Rock was beautiful as always and great to take in the spectacular views!
We love talking a walk down by the docks and seeing the Chippewa and Pink Pony from another view.
After a glorious week on Mackinac, how do I say good-bye to the sunrises that were waiting to greet the new day, or the magnificent crystal blue waters, sparkling beaches, the many miles of trails our bikes traversed, the joy of seeing good friends that we’ve made over the years as well as the new ones? I won’t say good-bye. Instead, I’ll say, see you next time when we meet again!
The Chippewa Hotel Waterfront and Mackinac Island are waiting for you! Give them a call at 800-241-3341 to make your reservations. They’ll have a room or suite ready for you with your name on it. Have a great time and tell them I said hi!
